How Much Do Lumineers Cost?

Lumineers are ultra-thin veneers that can drastically improve the look of your entire smile in just two office visits. In fact, Lumineers not only give your teeth a bright and glossy white appearance, they also correct gaps and other spacing issues, hide cracks and chips, and correct teeth that are small or irregularly shaped. Although Lumineers could be the answer to how to get the perfect smile you’ve always wanted, you may be curious about how much it costs to get these veneers.

Why Lumineers are a Worthwhile Investment

Lumineers are a brand of veneers that are made from an incredibly thin material. They may be slightly more costly than traditional porcelain veneers. However, there are several benefits to choosing Lumineers.

Lumineers are Ultra-Thin and Require “No Prep”

Lumineers are about half as thin as traditional veneers (about .2mm, which, for context, is the same thickness as a contact lens). They are often referred to as “no-prep” veneers. Because they are so thin, they do not necessarily require your dentist to shave down your existing tooth surface in order to make room for placement.

There are several advantages to the “no-prep” option. For one, Lumineers are usually reversible. Unlike traditional veneers, the tooth enamel is not affected. Another benefit you gain from Lumineers is that they do not require you to wear a temporary set of acrylic veneers while you await your permanent set. Lastly, the process of getting Lumineers can be painless and may not require an anesthetic.

Durability

Despite being much thinner than traditional veneers, the specialized porcelain material is extremely strong and durable. Lumineers are resistant to stains and cracks. You maintain them in much the same way you care for your natural teeth. With proper care, Lumineers can up to 20 years.

Lumineers May Replace Other Treatments

You may also be able to avoid certain other cosmetic treatments. In only two office visits, your entire smile can be transformed without the need for repeated whitening treatments. In many cases, Lumineers can create the appearance of a straighter smile and close gaps between teeth without lengthy, uncomfortable, and costly alignment procedures.

So How Much do Lumineers Cost?

The price of Lumineers can vary dramatically from patient to patient. Costs will depend on your individual needs, how many you choose to get, and whether your existing teeth require any preparation. Lumineers may cost anywhere from $800-2500 per tooth. Yes, that is a very broad range, which is why we offer a completely free consultation.

Are Lumineers Covered by Insurance?

Lumineers are usually considered a cosmetic procedure (just like braces, whitening, or aligners) and are not generally covered by insurance. In some cases, however, insurance may cover at least a portion of the cost of Lumineers. When veneers are considered medically necessary, a portion of the cost may be covered by your insurance. This may be the case in the event of damage from an injury, illness, or tooth decay. All policies are different, so check with your dentist and insurance company for more information.
