How to Take Great Care of Your Dentures

  • Clean dentures after eating – Rinse your dentures with water to remove food particles.
  • Treat your dentures with care – Avoiding bending or damaging plastic or clasps when cleaning.
  • Clean your mouth after removing dentures – Use a toothbrush to clean remaining teeth, your tongue, cheeks, and roof of your mouth. Preventing bacterial buildup will help you avoid infections.
  • Brush your dentures at least once a day – Soak your dentures and brush them with a non-abrasive cleanser appropriate for dentures. Clean off any adhesive that may be remaining.
  • Soak dentures overnight – Most dentures must stay moist to retain their shape, so it’s crucial that they soak overnight. Keep them in water or a mild denture solution, and follow your dentist’s instructions.
  • Rinse dentures below putting them back in your mouth – If you’re using a denture solution, this is especially important, as these can contain chemicals that are harmful if ingested.
  • Schedule regular dental appointments – We’ll let you know how often you should visit. Even if you no longer have any natural teeth, we will check the state of your dentures and ensure your oral tissues are infection- and disease-free – unfortunately, you can still have dental problems without teeth. Your dentist will also make sure the fit is good and the dentures are working properly.
  • Check in with your dentist if something changes – If your dentures are feeling loose, or if an area of your gums is feeling raw or sore, schedule a check-up. This will help you avoid irritation, discomfort, or growing problems that can result from a poor fit.
