Lumineers process

Lumineers are the ideal solution for anyone self-conscious about their smile. Dental Lumineers can restore your confidence and create the perfect smile you’ve always wanted. These ultra-thin porcelain slips fit perfectly over your teeth to make them look aesthetically perfect, white, and beautiful.

If you’re searching for a way to eliminate discoloration and straighten crooked teeth, Lumineers are an ideal alternative to braces and professional whitening treatments. Still in need of convincing? Lumineers can be fitted and applied in just two appointments!

How Lumineers Work

Dental Lumineers are a brand of veneers. These thin, shell-like covers are placed over your teeth to immediately cover up cosmetic concerns like stains, chips, or gaps. Each one is individually bonded to the front of a tooth to create the illusion of a perfect smile. Lumineers can solve a variety of dental concerns, including:

  • Large gaps between your teeth
  • Misaligned teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Stained teeth
  • Uneven gums and teeth
  • Unnatural looking bridges and crowns

First Appointment – Initial Consultation

For Lumineers to be placed, your underlying teeth, bone, and gums must be in perfect health. If you suffer from gum disease or tooth decay, you must be treated before placement. Unlike traditional porcelain veneers, Lumineers can be left in place for over 20 years. Subsequently, Lumineers can also be removed if you desire to expose your intact original teeth.

During the initial visit, bite impressions and X-rays are taken to determine the exact way the teeth fit together. Your teeth will also be thoroughly examined to ensure that no tooth decay and gum disease signs are present. Together, you and Dr. Peter Harnois will select the color of the Lumineers and the desired level of transparency.

Previewing Your New Lumineers Smile

You can now preview your Lumineers smile before you have them at Hinsdale Dentistry! LumiSmile dental digital imaging shows you what Lumineers could look like in your mouth and allows you and your dentist to determine a treatment direction. It is quick, free, and only requires a picture of your smile. After our team takes your picture, it is sent to a Lumismile artist who applies Lumineers to the images of your teeth. Before leaving our office that day, the picture will be returned, and you will receive a portfolio featuring your prospective Lumineers smile.

Second Appointment – Placement of Lumineers

During your second appointment, the Lumineers are bonded to the teeth. During the bonding process, the bonding substance may ooze out from beneath the Lumineers. In this case, excess bonding is carefully removed using a beveled feather edge margin. Once the Lumineers are in place, Dr. Harnois will polish them until they are entirely smooth. The advantage of this smoothness is that bacteria and staining agents cannot easily adhere to the surface of your new smile, making the surfaces more durable than your natural teeth.

The final step in the placement process is the final separation. Until this point, the Lumineers are still attached, where the bite impressions suggest teeth would join naturally. Once the treatment is finished, you’re left with the beautiful, bright white smile of your dreams.

Lumineers Have a Wide Range of Advantages

Lumineers provide a wide range of advantages over traditional veneer treatments. The most meaningful advantage to anxious patients is that no painful alterations of the teeth are required before the Lumineers application. The covers themselves are so thin and unobtrusive that speech and eating are rarely affected.

Some unique advantages of Lumineers are:

  • They last for over 20 years
  • No harsh drilling of inner tooth mechanisms is required
  • No injections are necessary
  • No pain or discomfort during treatment
  • Only two dental visits are required to see your results
  • Multiple Lumineers can be placed at one time
  • The Lumineers are resistant to staining and discoloration
  • Ultra-thin materials the thickness of a contact lens
  • Treatment is entirely reversible
