What To Do When Your Kids Hate Healthy Foods

  • Taste training – You’ve probably heard of some variation on this method; while there are plenty of specific taste training philosophies, they all have the same aim. That’s to get your kids liking a wider variety of tooth-healthy, body-healthy foods. Try slowly reducing sugar, starches, and other problematic foods and gradually introducing the good stuff.
  • Sugar today = cavities down the line – Talk to your whole family about the consequences of indulging in candy, soda, and chips. Discuss how plaque is formed, and how it leads to cavities – not to mention the systemic health problems that stem from too much sugar and fat.
  • Find the right snacks – While your children might not love broccoli, maybe they’ll be more into carrots. There’s always alternatives, and you can find one that every member of your family enjoys.
  • Clean out the pantry – If there are sugar cereals, fruit roll ups, and sodas lying around, it’s much harder to push the healthier alternatives.
  • Pack lunches – If your kids typically get their lunches at school, switch over to homemade lunches. You can help your kids become more responsible by showing them how to make their own lunches, or pack them with nutritious but tasty snacks that will change their minds about going tooth-friendly.
